About Us
We are an independent practice founded by Hema Desai.
Hema is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist with over 20 years of experience working in both clinical and educational settings across the UK and Australia. She grew up in Australia and completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Speech Pathology) at Charles Sturt University in 2001. After graduating, she worked in a range of settings in Melbourne before moving to London in 2008, where she worked for the National Health Service and later at a specialist independent school supporting children with Specific Learning Difficulties, including dyslexia.
Hema holds a Level 5 Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) and a Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia). She is a qualified Sounds-Write practitioner and has also completed training in the Little Learners Love Literacy program. In 2011, she founded Connect: Literacy, Speech and Language Services, which grew into a thriving clinic in South West London supporting children with dyslexia to reach their full potential.
In 2022, Hema returned to Australia and relocated her practice to Melbourne. She also works as the Education Manager for Learning Difficulties Australia. Hema is passionate about supporting students with literacy difficulties, helping them build confidence and develop the skills they need to become successful learners. She is known for her warm and calm approach, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable and engaged. Her sessions are interactive and enjoyable, making learning both effective and fun.
