Literacy Assessments

Standard Assessment
An initial literacy assessment is required prior to beginning tutoring sessions. This assessment involves assessing reading, spelling, phonological awareness and writing skills.

Extended Assessment
In some instances a more detailed assessment may be required. This will involve assessing memory and processing speed which can impact on a student’s learning ability.

1:1 Tutoring (Sounds-Write)

We offer 1:1 literacy tutoring with a Sounds-Write trained speech pathologist. The Sounds-Write programme is a highly-structured evidenced-based synthetic phonics programme. This programme is designed for students who are needing support with phonics, reading and spelling. Teaching will be individual and specific to the child’s needs, using multi-sensory teaching methods.

1:1 Tutoring (Written composition & Reading Comprehension)

We offer 1:1 tutoring sessions with a speech pathologist focusing on written composition skills or reading comprehension skills. Targets for tutoring sessions will be determined from assessment results and through discussion with the child and parents.

1:1 Tutoring (Handwriting)

We offer 1:1 tutoring sessions to develop children’s handwriting skills. Children will work on using an appropriate pencil grip and posture for writing. They will learn individual letter formation and accurate sizing and spacing of letters.

We are here to help and our top priority is helping your child to achieve their best.
